In addition to the luncheon programs, Club 13 offers many opportunities to meet and develop
friendships with other leaders in the Kansas City area.
- "Fireside" meetings are a Rotary tradition. When Rotary Clubs were first formed, the meetings
were rotated from one member's business to another. Today, members host a small group of
Rotarians at their homes or businesses, expressly for the purpose of getting to learn about each
other's work and lives.
- Tyrotarian socials are held four times a year, especially for new members. Only Tyrotarians
(first year members), their significant others, and the Club's senior leaders are invited to
these functions, which are designed to acquaint new members with the Board of Directors and
Past Presidents of Club 13.
- Rotary Dinners For Eight offer couples a chance to entertain, and be entertained, by other
Rotarians, in their homes. Each couple brings a portion of the meal to the host's home where
everyone makes friends and enjoys good food.
- Bowling or Golf anyone? Club 13 has rich traditions in both. The weekly Rotary bowling
league culminates with an interstate competition in Columbia with Rotarians from St. Louis. The
annual club golf championship is just one of several golfing opportunities with fellow Rotarians.
- Other Rotary outings have recently included nights at the Starlight Theater, the Arabia Steamboat Museum,
the Truman Library and the Kansas City Zoo.
