Hockaday, Jr., is retired president and chief executive officer of Hallmark Cards, Inc., the worlds largest publisher of greeting cards and related products. He retired effective December 2001. Prior to joining the corporation in 1983, Hockaday served as president (since 1971) and chief executive officer of Kansas City Southern Industries, Inc., a diversified New York Stock Exchange company. Hockaday was a member of the Hallmark board of directors from 1978 through 2001. He holds various civic positions: trustee emeritus of the Aspen Institute, member of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, trustee of the Hall Family Foundation, board chairman of Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute, advisory trustee of the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, member of the Mayors Advisory Group, life trustee of Midwest Research Institute and advisory board member of UMKC Bloch Endowment. He is a director of Aquila, Inc., Crown Media Holdings, Inc., Dow Jones and Company, Inc., The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc., Ford Motor Company and Sprint Nextel Corporation.
