The Best Podium In Kansas City

The Downtown Rotary Club's luncheon programs stimulate, inform, and entertain in a grand and proud tradition. Live music brightens every meeting. Our podium has featured speakers from Earl Nightingale and Ronald Reagan to Henry Bloch and Kit Bond. When our Mayor or other civic leaders need to get out an important message about current events affecting the future of Downtown, there is no more powerful forum than the podium at Club 13. Here's just a sampling of recent programs:

  • Drue Jennings accepted the Club 13 Business Executive (non-Rotarian) of the Year Award and described the evolution of KCPL, the future of the company and its impact on Kansas City.

  • Jack Craft and Steve Rose led us in a spirited debate prior to the vote on the Bi-State Cultural Tax to rebuild Union Station.

  • John McMeel from McMeel Andrews Universal shared the history and development of syndicated features like Doonesbury, Dilbert, and Erma Bombeck.

  • Internet experts Ted Findlay and Scott Terry de-mystified the World Wide Web and showed us Home Pages, including that of the Kansas City Chiefs.

  • Buck O'Neill talked about a lifetime of baseball from the old Negro League to the modern Kansas City Royals and the business of baseball.

  • Bill Fromm, CEO and founder of Barkley & Evergreen, told us why he is moving his company back downtown after 15 years in Johnson County and we learned about the Downtown Property Inspection Program.

  • Wendall Anschutz challenged us about the future of Downtown Kansas City and shared film showing the renaissance of downtowns in Fort Worth, Denver, and Seattle.

  • Bill Nelson, President of NationsBank Kansas City Region, shared his vision for a revitalized downtown that includes the proposed Power & Light District, a new center for the performing arts, and a new sports arena.
