Board of Director's Notes
Your board of directors met on June 16, 2010 for its regular monthly
meeting. Following are meeting highlights:
Chris Boland, president of the Youth Camp Association,
gave an update on the camp which is now in session. He noted that
everything was running smoothly at the camp.
A copy of the new club banner design was distributed to the board for
consideration. A motion was made by Myron Sildon to
accept the new design and proceed accordingly to make it happen. Motion
was seconded by Ford Nelson. Motion
carried.
Membership classification changes were approved for Mike
Hennessy from Active/Limousine Service to
Active/Hotel-Corporate and Ann Johnson from "In Process
of Adjustment" to Active/Mortgage-Reverse.
Membership resignation requests from Leslie Bitterman,
Jim McKee, Clint Nelson,
Ward Shaw and Jeffrey Smith were
accepted with regret.
The membership proposals for John Mark Clifton, Michael Falk, Scott Paul
Hachnski and Dale Palmer published in the June 17 Buzz Saw were
approved.
Past due accounts were again reviewed and 10-day letters were sent.
Since we have had a number of Rotarians in arrears, your board of
directors has established and approved a new policy on member
participation when delinquent. It states: "Those members that are more
than 60 days delinquent and have not made payment arrangements with the
Rotary office will not be permitted to participate in luncheons or
events except on a pay at the time of the event basis. Badges would be
pulled for luncheons and anyone making an RSVP for an event would be
asked to make payment immediately. In the event that they have not made
an RSVP for an event but show up, then they will be reminded of the club
policy and required to pay at that time or soon thereafter as possible.
It is not the intention to embarrass them or exclude them from events.
For implementation of this policy a letter shall be sent from the club
president to everyone on the current delinquent list advising them of
the policy effective August 1, 2010. Thereafter notification shall be
made necessary, but the policy shall be included in the annual billing
that is sent out in December. A motion to accept this new policy was
made by Myron Sildon and seconded by Rick Kappa.
Motion approved.
The renewal of our honorary members was reviewed and approved.
A motion was made by Dan Doty that we designate our
2010-11 secretary-treasurer Andrew S. Beyer, with the
authority to handle all transactions for our Rotary Club and Youth Camp.
Motion was seconded by Janice Newberry.
Motion carried.
President-elect Ford Nelson presented the 2010-11
budget. After a review and discussion, a motion was made by Dick
Retrum that we approve the 2010-2011 budget. Motion was
seconded by Charlie Huffman. Motion carried.
The next board meeting will be July 21, 2010 at the Armstrong Teasdale
LLP office.
Rummaging for
Rotary Camp
The weather is finally warm and spring cleaning time is here! This year
as you rummage through your basements, attics and garages keep the
Rotary Youth Camp in mind. There will be a Rummage Sale at the Camp on
September 10th and 11th this year to help raise money for the Camp. We
will begin collecting items after August 17th (the last day for summer
campers). You can bring your donations by the Camp or call Laurie, our
Camp Superintendent to arrange for a pick up.
We will also be looking for volunteers to help set up before the event,
"man" the
area during the event and clean up afterwards.
Rotary International Convention in New Orleans
Many Club 13 Rotarians traveled to Chicago in 2005 for the Rotary
International Convention and then again to Los Angeles in 2008.
Everyone had a great time both at the convention activities and also
the Club 13 dinner. Mark your calendar for the RI Convention in New
Orleans, May 22-25, 2011. It will be tremendous fun! The Rotary
International President presiding over the New Orleans convention
will be Ray Klinginsmith from Kirksville, Missouri. The Hampton Inn &
Suites New Orleans Convention Center has been designated the "Missouri"
hotel but will fill quickly. Make your reservations today! A $150
deposit is
required but is refundable if your plans change. Book on-line at

I
guess it's appropriate to say our
"Changing of the Guard" celebration last Thursday night as "Back to the
Future", as President Ford commenced his year in the Tudor Room of the
old Kansas City Club where Club 13 met for many years. It is still a
beautiful room.
Festivities began as the new board of directors
greeted each arrival briefly so as not to delay partaking of cocktails
and conviviality. Rotary fellowship prevailed as Rotarians and their
exquisitely adorned spouses (male spouses can be exquisite too!)
circulated in joyful exchange of personal news and happy hour banter.
During dinner that was catered by Brancato's, pianist Greg Meise
furnished delightful, low-key background melodies fitting for the
occasion.
President Ford, fresh from the
R.I. Convention in Montreal, or maybe not so fresh, as he and Carolyn,
after staying thru the final session Wednesday night, didn't arrive home
Thursday until the wee hours and without much rest, began his term as
Club 13's 101st President and into our second century.
Inspired by the convention and after meeting with
R.I. new president from Missouri, Ray Klinginsmith, Ford
stated that his motto for the year might be "Vigor, Better and Bolder".
His goals for the year were put forward, and he expressed his
appreciation for the opportunity. He introduced and thanked his wife
Carolyn for her support, and patience to come.
He then introduced his new board: Marc
Horner, Pres. Elect; Andy Beyer, Sect./Treas;
new directors Mary Kingsley, Robert Thompson,
Tom Van Dyke and 2nd termers
Dan Doty, Charlie Huffman and Janice
Newberry.
Pres. Matt Meyer came to the
podium then to a standing ovation, where gavels and president pins were
exchanged making the whole evening now official.
After receiving a gift of appreciation from the
club and a book of letters from members, Past President Matt
recalled briefly some events of his term and thanked the members, the
committees and belatedly (he said he was reminded) his wife Suzy for
making his presidency of Club 13 such a wonder year. He again
acknowledged our Committee Chairs of the Year which were Sally
Bibb, Tom Terry and David McCaughey;
Tyro of the year, Teresa Montgomery
and Paul Searcy, Volunteer of the Year.
He concluded with 10 Reasons Why Ford
Nelson will be a better President. They were humorous statement
in the Matt Meyer style, and of course, related to
"lawyer" implications, but his #1 was "His rich knowledge of Club 13
make him the best to finish out the second half of our Centennial year."
Hail To The Chief!
