Every Rotarian
shares the responsibility of seeking qualified members for unfilled
classifications. In this way all club members can help their club achieve
a full representation of the business and professional life of the community.
The basic procedure
by which individuals are proposed for and elected to membership in a
Rotary Club is:
- The proposer
and endorser submit to the Board of Directors the proposal and application
card, including written permission to publish applicants name
and classification to the club membership. It is the responsibility
of the proposer to inform the prospective member of the privileges
and responsibilities of membership and to provide the prospective
member with the following benefits and obligations statement.
- The Board, upon
satisfactory report by the clubs membership and classification
committee, considers the application and, if approved, the prospects
name is published in the Buzz Saw.
- If no objection
is received by the Board within 10 days of publication, the proposer
is notified that the prospect is approved for membership. The Rotary
office will notify the applicant.
- Upon payment
of fees and attendance at a membership orientation meeting, the applicant
is considered to be elected to membership and the name is reported
to the General Secretary of Rotary International.

Benefits:
- As a member of Club 13 you will have the opportunity to meet and
develop friendships with other leaders in the Kansas City area, and
to learn about each others work and lives.
- With your new friends you will find opportunities to be of service
to the community in the true Service Above Self Rotary
tradition. Among the many areas of service is the Rotary Youth Camp,
one of the most outstanding service projects in all of Rotary International.
- You will find yourself participating in Thursday meet-ings with
outstanding speakers, attending Fireside meetings at members
homes or businesses, playing in golf or tennis tournaments, bowling
with the 16 Rotary teams, and otherwise being an active part of Club
13.
Obligations:
- After proposed members are approved for membership, they must pay
$340 (one-time initiation fee of $250 and $45 annual contribution
to the Youth Camp). Not-for-profit executives pay $215 (one-half initiation
fee and $90 Youth Camp contribution). The initiation fee may be postponed
for those under 35. The annual dues will be prorated for new members;
$70.00 per month remaining in the calendar year ($60.21 if under 35
and not-for-profit, or $27.08 for Past Service). They must also provide
a black and white photo for the roster, which can be taken free by
our official photographer.
- After approval, each prospective member must attend a membership
education meeting, held prior to a luncheon meeting. At that meeting
he/she is introduced to the club and given the badge by the sponsor.
- All new members spend their first year as Tyrotarians,
identified by red ribbons on their badges. This enables members to
introduce themselves, speeding the process of meeting fellow Rotarians.
- During the Tyrotarian year, each member must attend at least 50%
of the meetings, attend a Fireside session, and visit the Youth Camp.
- Members are expected to pay their annual dues on time. (Dues are
$885 for active, $767.50 for under 35, or $370 for past service. Quarterly
payments are accepted with service charge.) Dues for active members
include the cost of lunches for the year.
- Every member is expected to do his or her part to support the club
and its activities, and to accept responsibilities when called upon.
