The Downtown Rotary Club's luncheon programs stimulate, inform, and entertain in a grand and proud tradition. Live music brightens every meeting. Our podium has featured speakers including Ronald Reagan, Lamar Hunt and Barnett Helzberg. When our Mayor or other civic leaders need to get out an important message about current events affecting the future of Downtown and the Kansas City area, there is no better forum than the podium at Club 13.
This week we our proud to present:
  • The journey of R. Crosby Kemper III from bank CEO to library CEO has seen diverse stops along the way. A scion of the Kemper banking family, he served in several capacities with UMB Financial Corp., including chairman and CEO of the Kansas City-based company.

After attending Yale, where he majored in history, Kemper worked in a T-shirt shop and then a book store in New York City’s Grand Central Station. Between stints at UMB, he spent a year in China teaching English, then returned to New York City as executive director of the British Institute of the United States.

In 2004, Kemper left UMB Financial Corp. and was subsequently named CEO of the Kansas City Public Library, whose showpiece is the downtown branch at 14 W. Tenth St. – ironically, a former bank building.
