Many of the Rotarians in the District have expressed a desire to assist those in need because of the devastation from Hurricane Harvey and the resultant torrential rainfall leading to historic flooding. The willingness to help is accompanied by a desire to be effective stewards of resources.  It appears at this stage of the disaster that the best way to assist the victims and communities affected by Hurricane Harvey and to address the biggest needs is through monetary donations.  Those wanting to help are asking where to send funds.  Set out below are three options for sending money to assist.
Option 1
Rotary District 6200 has a 501c3 Foundation that can receive disaster funds.  The Rotary District 6200 Foundation was established prior to Hurricane Katrina and has proven to be an effective and transparent way to accept and distribute funds especially in disastrous events of this magnitude.  District 6200 DG Martha Collins and District 6200 Foundation Chair PDG Mike Collins have agreed to help Rotarians and like minded benefactors with their donations toward hurricane victims.  Mike and Martha are in the process of assembling a representative advisory board to determine use of funds. This board, to include Directors and representatives from Texas and Louisiana, will ensure that funds will be used in credible ways to assist those in the disaster areas including Texas and Louisiana.  The proven method of disbursement of the funds used successfully following Hurricane Katrina will be employed by this board as well.  The administrative costs will be minimal.

Make checks payable to The Rotary District 6200 Foundation with Hurricane Harvey Relief in the memo line. Please designate if you want these funds just for Texas, just for Louisiana or “all affected area.”
Send checks to:

The Zone Disaster Coordinator has gathered from the three main Rotary districts affected by the Hurricane information on where to send any monetary aid you can gather up from your clubs and fellow Rotarians to help those in need, including the three names of the District Governors affected that will be getting requests from their areas’ clubs for help.

A receipt for the donations over $250.00 should be sent to the donors for tax purposes and if requested for any amount.

Option 3
Charity Navigator has compiled a list of highly-rated organizations responding in the aftermath of this storm and providing assistance to the people and communities affected by it. Donors can designate their donations to the cause on the organization's website. However, at this point in time it is not certain that all these organizations will spend 100% of donations received on Hurricane Harvey relief.

If you're looking for a local charity to support in the wake of Hurricane Harvey please consider Houston Food Bank, Food Bank of Corpus Christi, Houston Humane Society, or San Antonio Humane Society. These highly-rated organizations are located in the most-affected areas and are providing support to individuals and animals.

Designated donations made from this page will be applied to charity programs per each charity's designation policies.
